Test Engineer

£320 outside IR35

Location: Poole – Due to the physical device testing involved, you’ll need to attend the office for initial onboarding and hands-on testing activities. Other aspects of the role can be completed remotely.

We’re looking for hands on Test Engineers to support the testing of a range of software, hardware and device-based systems. You’ll work across both physical devices and back office systems, carrying out manual and exploratory testing to ensure solutions work effectively across the full end to end journey.

The role will require some office attendance due to the hands on nature of device and hardware testing, particularly during the initial onboarding period. Other testing activities can be carried out remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform manual and exploratory testing across software, hardware and back office systems.
• Test physical devices including point-of-sale (POS) devices, ticket vending machines, validators and other ticketing equipment.
• Test station based software and digital ticketing solutions.
• Validate end to end customer journeys, including ticket purchases, journey validation and device interactions.
• Execute test cases, record results and provide clear test reporting.
• Retrieve and analyse system logs to support defect investigation and troubleshooting.
• Identify the appropriate types and levels of testing required across different systems and devices.
• Work across both software and hardware environments to identify issues and ensure overall system quality.

Desirable Experience

• Experience testing hardware or physical devices alongside software applications.
• Experience with payments or POS testing.
• Previous experience within transport, travel or ticketing environments.
• Test automation experience using tools such as Robot Framework or Pytest.
• Comfortable retrieving and reviewing logs as part of test execution and defect investigation.
