Job summary

Pertemps Bristol Industrial is seeking an experienced Test Engineer to support electronic production testing in Chippenham. The role involves hands-on troubleshooting, developing test methods, and collaborating with production, engineering and project teams in a long-term contract setting.

The successful candidate will have a degree in engineering (or equivalent), 3+ years in testing with 5+ years preferred, and strong experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, NI analysers).

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years' experience in testing or development; 5+ years preferred.
• Strong experience in supporting electronic testing, manufacturing or production environments.
• Ability to interpret test standards, customer requirements and internal specs.
• Experience with test, measurement and data acquisition equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, NI analysers).
• Hands-on experience with electrical/electronic systems and soldering.

Responsibilities

• Investigate failed or fatigued components and perform root-cause analysis.

• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving production test capability issues.
• Undertake additional engineering duties as requested by the Engineering Manager.

Test Engineer – Production Support

Location: Chippenham, Southpoint Business Park

Contract: Long-Term Ongoing Contract

Working Hours: Full Time, typically 7:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

Pay Rate: £25 - £30 per hour, dependent on experience

Start Date: Immediate

Pertemps are currently recruiting for an experienced Test Engineer to join an internationally renowned transportation engineering organisation based in Chippenham.

This is a long-term contract opportunity for a Test Engineer with experience supporting electronic manufacturing and production test operations. You will work within an established engineering environment, providing technical support across production testing, investigating test failures and helping to improve test processes and capability.

The role would suit a technically minded Test Engineer who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting and working closely with production, engineering and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for electronic production testing and associated test equipment.
• Develop test methods and procedures to support production activities.
• Train technicians in the correct use of test equipment and procedures.
• Investigate failed or fatigued electronic components and carry out root cause analysis.
• Produce detailed technical test reports and communicate findings to project teams.
• Support the ongoing development and improvement of production test processes.
• Liaise with internal departments, customers and external test facilities as required.
• Provide regular progress and status updates to project teams and the Engineering Manager.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues affecting production test capability.
• Undertake additional engineering duties as requested by the Engineering Manager.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in an engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience in testing or development, with 5+ years preferred.
• Strong experience supporting electronic testing, manufacturing or production environments.
• The ability to interpret test standards, customer requirements and internal technical specifications.
• Practical experience using a range of test, measurement and data acquisition equipment, including DMMs, oscilloscopes and NI analysers.
• Hands-on experience working with electrical and electronic systems.
• Experience with component disassembly and soldering.
• Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet project and production deadlines.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to work with technicians, engineers, customers and other stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Essential Skills

• Electronics fault-finding and debugging.
