Our test engineers are at the forefront of operations at our testing laboratories and play a key role in certifying the safety of products for global consumers, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and conform to industry standards.

Our Labs:

BSI has over 50 years of testing excellence with two UKAS accredited laboratories in the UK, located in Hemel Hempstead & Loughborough. Our Hemel Hempstead facility specializes in testing PPE, Latex, IoT Security, Financial, Automotive, Fire detection, Doors & Windows, and Construction Products. Our Loughborough lab, based within Loughborough University, offers testing across Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Energy, and Gas Appliances, with plans to expand.

What is it like to be an Electrical Test Engineer at BSI?

A typical day involves creating test setups to simulate product use and conditions. Accuracy is crucial; initial calibration checks are performed before measurements are taken and results recorded according to ISO standards. You will interpret standards to perform tests, analyze data, and generate verdicts on specific clauses. Additionally, you will support process improvements, contribute to safety assessments, and help identify areas for efficiency and equipment upgrades.

This role is ideal for electrical/electronic engineers seeking a challenging environment where they can work on diverse products across various sectors and develop their skills daily.

What do we need from you?

You should have a background in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, with solid knowledge of electrical principles and measurement techniques. Experience with testing equipment such as load banks, multimeters, flash testers, and earth bond testers is essential. You will manage multiple projects, set up test rigs, and interpret and report technical data using MS Word and Excel. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are required.
