Job description

Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. We are seeking experienced Test Engineers to support our client at their Glasgow facility. In this role, the successful candidate will apply their skills to test and verify state‑of‑the‑art electro‑optical defence and security systems.

The position spans the full product lifecycle, from engineering test and verification of prototypes, through qualification activities, and into production‑level testing. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Test Engineer to deepen their technical capability, broaden their systems understanding, and develop their career within a highly regulated environment.

We are looking for an energetic and driven individual with a strong electronics background. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in defence, aerospace, or other heavily regulated industries.

This role offers the chance to work with a blue‑chip client on technology that contributes directly to the security of the UK and its allies. Valued attributes include being a team player who uses their initiative, demonstrates a passion for engineering, and applies a thorough, methodical approach with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities
  • Execute engineering test, verification and validation activities across prototype, pre‑production and production hardware
  • Develop test procedures, test plans and verification documentation aligned to requirements
  • Perform board‑level, subsystem‑level and system‑level testing on electro‑optical and electronic assemblies
  • Conduct functional, environmental and qualification testing as required
  • Support board bring‑up, debug and fault‑finding activities using standard lab equipment
  • Record, analyse and present test results, producing clear and traceable test reports
  • Work closely with electronics, systems, mechanical and software teams to ensure test coverage and design‑for‑test considerations
  • Participate in design reviews, providing feedback from a test and verification perspective
  • Support continuous improvement of test processes, tooling and documentation
Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in Electronics Engineering or closely related discipline
  • A lower qualification would be acceptable for example HNC/HND should the candidate be able to demonstrate significant demonstrable relevant experience in lieu
Essential Skills
  • Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals (analogue, digital or mixed‑signal)
  • Hands‑on experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power supplies, DMMs, signal generators)
  • Ability to interpret schematics, block diagrams and engineering requirements
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures and verification plans
  • Competence in board bring‑up, debug and structured fault‑finding
  • Clear, methodical approach to documentation and reporting
  • Experience working within a regulated or safety‑critical environment (defence, aerospace, medical, rail, automotive etc.)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in multi‑disciplinary teams
Desired Skills
  • Experience with environmental or EMC testing
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS)
  • Exposure to electro‑optical systems or sensor‑based products
  • Experience with automated test scripting (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW or similar)
  • Understanding of qualification standards relevant to defence or aerospace
  • Knowledge of design‑for‑test principles
Experience
  • Demonstrated experience performing engineering test, verification and validation on electronic or electro‑mechanical systems
  • Hands‑on experience with board‑level and system‑level testing, including bring‑up, debug and structured fault‑finding
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures, test plans and verification documentation
  • Proven ability to work with engineering requirements and trace test coverage to specifications
  • Experience using standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power supplies, DMMs and signal generators
  • Exposure to testing within a regulated or safety‑critical environment (defence, aerospace, medical, automotive, rail or similar)
  • Experience producing clear, accurate and traceable test reports for internal and customer review
  • Working within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams (electronics, systems, mechanical, software)
  • Experience supporting design reviews and feeding back test‑driven insights to design teams
