Job description

Are you an Electronics graduate with some test experience? If so, my client based in Colchester, one of the world leaders in the design and manufacture of control and monitoring systems, will be really excited to hear about you. The Test Engineer will test products in R&D as well as production.

Duties:

1. Test the functionality of in-house application software (primarily embedded) using a 'Black box' functional testing methodology.
2. Determine the set of tests necessary to test and prove the functionality of the software based on the functional description supplied by the design team.
3. Inspect and test electronic / electrical products in production in accordance with their product designs, applicable drawings, and parts lists.
4. Inspect, repair, and test products customer returns.
5. Reconfigure existing test equipment, or request the purchase of new equipment required, working closely with the R&D team to determine if equipment needs to be designed specifically for the task.
6. Maintain test equipment, tools, and environment.
7. Complete any relevant production documentation.
8. Provide feedback to design engineers regarding products to improve standardisation and innovation in design.
9. Participate in regular team meetings to ensure continual improvements.
10. Aid the development of standard products and systems.
11. Where appropriate, visit suppliers to resolve serious or ongoing issues.

Skills and Experience:

1. Qualified to degree level in Electronics/Electrical Engineering.
2. Experience of application/software/controls testing would be preferred.
3. Hardware test experience is essential.
4. Experience of the marine industry would be preferable.
5. Experience of traction and locomotive engineering ideal.
6. Knowledge of electrical machine basics (generators, transformers, motors), prime movers and generators used in industry would be useful along with electrical protection devices & energy monitoring devices.
