Job summary
The Senior Test & Development Engineer will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, verifying, validating, and providing technical support for board-level, sub-system, and system-level test equipment.
Important: All applicants must be able to obtain Security Clearance.
Location: Harlow (fully onsite)
Duration: 12-month contract
We have multiple opportunities available with this team, including both permanent and contract positions.
Responsibilities:
- Design functional test equipment for circuit cards, sub-assemblies, and systems.
- Take responsibility for the design quality and provide leadership to junior engineers.
- Document design specifications and participate in design reviews, adhering to standards.
- Develop robust test hardware solutions for complex system requirements.
- Implement detailed technical items, understanding system-level components.
- Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to define system designs and interfaces.
- Develop test hardware, software, and procedures to verify hardware operation.
- Support manufacturing by resolving technical issues and product queries.
- Manage obsolescence and support test hardware throughout its lifecycle.
- Report progress on test development to supervisors and teams.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
- Conduct activities in line with company values and ethics.
- Perform other activities as requested by management.
- Apply Design Review processes and manage engineering risks and opportunities.
- Guide test development processes and tools.
- Contribute to resource planning using Microsoft Project.
- Lead small to medium scale test engineering programs.
- Identify and engage SMEs for test activities.
- Approve and contribute to test development processes and gates.
- Interface with external customers and suppliers.
- Possess strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design.
- Write comprehensive technical documentation.
- Support design handover and management in production.
- Support system integration and debugging.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in Defence, Aerospace, or safety-regulated environments is advantageous.
- Use of Mentor Graphics schematic and PCB layout tools.
- Understanding of PXI/d LXI test architectures.
- Knowledge of Measurement Uncertainty in test design.
- Experience with NI LabView, NI CVI, NI TestStand, C#.
