Job summary

Bullfinch Recruitment is recruiting for a Test Automation Engineer to join our client’s Technology team in the Isle of Man. You will design and maintain automated testing frameworks and embed quality across the SDLC.

Working with software engineers, BAs, and product owners, you will develop automated tests, support CI/CD pipelines, and drive quality improvements in complex cloud-based banking platforms. Experience with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress or SpecFlow, API testing, and Agile

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Test Automation Engineer, Quality Engineer, or Software Test Engineer role.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
  • Hands-on with Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, SpecFlow, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with API testing tools and methodologies.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and Agile SDLC practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based applications and modern software architectures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites across multiple applications and platforms.
  • Embed quality engineering principles throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Define, create, and execute automated test cases covering functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot defects, working closely with developers to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support the implementation and continual improvement of testing standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices by integrating automated testing into deployment processes.
  • Develop and maintain test data, testing environments, and automation assets.
  • Monitor test execution results, quality metrics, and coverage to support informed delivery decisions.
  • Work with BAs, Product Owners, and stakeholders to understand requirements and define effective test strategies.
  • Support performance, resilience, and reliability testing activities where appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and automation across the Technology function, providing guidance to colleagues on tools and practices.

Job Purpose

We are seeking experienced Test Automation Engineers to join our client's Technology team and play a key role in delivering high-quality solutions across their technology landscape.

Working closely with Software Engineers, Solution Architects, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and key business stakeholders, you will ensure quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This role focuses on developing and maintaining automated testing capabilities, elevating quality engineering standards, and supporting the delivery of strategic transformation initiatives.

The position combines technical expertise, quality assurance, automation, and continuous improvement to ensure platforms and services remain reliable, scalable, and fit for purpose.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Framework Development: Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites across multiple applications and platforms.
  • Quality Assurance: Embed quality engineering principles throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Test Execution: Collaborate with engineering teams to define, create, and execute automated test cases covering functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Defect Management: Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot defects, working closely with developers to ensure timely resolution.
  • Process Improvement: Support the implementation and continual improvement of testing standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices by integrating automated testing directly into deployment processes.
  • Environment Maintenance: Develop and maintain test data, testing environments, and automation assets.
  • Reporting & Metrics: Monitor test execution results, quality metrics, and coverage to support informed delivery decisions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with BAs, Product Owners, and stakeholders to understand requirements and define effective test strategies.
  • Non-Functional Testing: Support performance, resilience, and reliability testing activities where appropriate.
  • Culture & Mentorship: Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and automation across the Technology function, providing guidance to colleagues on tools and practices.
Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a Test Automation Engineer, Quality Engineer, or Software Test Engineer role.
  • Direct experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, principles, and quality engineering best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with modern automation tools/frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, SpecFlow, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency with API testing tools and methodologies.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into software delivery processes.
  • Sound understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC practices.
  • Experience working with cloud-based applications and modern software architectures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within Microsoft technology environments, including Azure.
  • Broad knowledge of DevOps practices and quality engineering principles.
  • Experience within banking, wealth management, or other regulated financial environments is advantageous but not essential.
