Job summary

Rullion Ltd in Northampton is seeking two experienced Senior Test Automation Engineers to join our team. The role focuses on functional, API and UI testing with automation using Karate, Playwright and Java.

You will design robust test solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, mentor junior QA, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines while working closely with developers, analysts and product owners in an Agile/DevOps environment.

Qualifications

• 7-8 years hands-on experience in functional testing, including API and UI testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on functional, API and UI testing across applications and services.
• Design, develop and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites.
• Build and enhance automation solutions using Karate, Playwright and Java.
• Analyse test failures, application behaviour and technical logs to identify and troubleshoot defects.
• Develop effective test scenarios and test cases based on business and technical requirements.
• Contribute to overall test strategy and test design, ensuring appropriate levels of functional and automated coverage.
• Support and mentor junior QA/test engineers, providing technical guidance and best-practice advice.
• Create, maintain and enhance GitLab CI/CD pipelines to support automated testing and continuous integration.
• Collaborate closely with developers, business analysts, product owners and other stakeholders.
• Communicate testing progress, risks, issues and technical findings clearly to multiple stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, automation practices and delivery standards.

About the Role

We are looking for two experienced Senior Test Automation Engineers to join our team in Northampton. The successful candidates will have strong hands‑on experience across functional, API and UI testing, together with proven automation expertise using Karate, Playwright and Java.

You will play a key role in designing and delivering robust test solutions, troubleshooting complex issues, supporting continuous improvement of our testing approach, and providing guidance to junior members of the team.

Experience within the banking and payments domain would be highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Skills & Experience

• 7-8 years of hands‑on experience in functional testing, including API and UI testing.
• Strong hands‑on experience in test automation.
• Experience with Karate and Playwright, preferably combined with strong Java development/programming skills.
• Excellent debugging and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Hands‑on experience with application and test log analysis.
• Strong understanding of test design, test planning and test execution.
• Experience providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
• Working knowledge of GitLab CI/CD, including pipeline creation, maintenance and enhancement.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within an Agile/DevOps environment.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience working within the banking or financial services sector.
• Knowledge and experience of the payments landscape, including payment‑related systems and processes.
• Experience working with distributed systems, APIs and modern web applications.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
