Job summary

The Richard Crosse CofE Primary School in Burton upon Trent is seeking a friendly Primary School Cook to lead our kitchen and serve around 60 meals daily during term time. The role is 22.5 hours per week, 10am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday.

You will prepare nutritious meals, maintain high hygiene and safety standards, manage stock and food orders, and engage with pupils to promote healthy eating and encourage meal take-up.

Qualifications

• Experience in food preparation and commercial kitchen management.
• Strong knowledge of food hygiene standards and kitchen safety.
• Excellent organisational skills for stock, ordering and paperwork.
• Friendly, encouraging personality who loves interacting with children.
• Genuine passion for healthy eating and child nutrition.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve fresh, nutritious, and appealing school meals daily.
• Maintain rigorous standards of kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety compliance.
• Manage administrative duties, including food ordering, stock rotation, and compliance paperwork.
• Actively engage with pupils, creating a warm dining environment that encourages them to try new foods and increases meal take-up.
