Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment Ltd is seeking a reliable School Cook for a part-time, term-time role in Blackburn. You will prepare and serve nutritious meals for pupils and staff, ensuring high standards of hygiene, health and safety.

The role offers term-time hours (8:00am–1:30pm) with school holidays off and opportunities for training and development within a welcoming school environment.

Qualifications

• Previous kitchen or school setting experience preferred.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate required or willingness to obtain.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety and allergen awareness.
• Ability to prepare nutritious meals for children.
• Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
• Ability to follow menus and dietary requirements accurately.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook nutritious meals for pupils and staff.
• Plan and prepare menus according to guidelines.
• Cater for allergies and dietary needs.
• Prepare meals in appropriate quantities to minimise waste.
• Ensure food is stored, prepared, cooked and served safely.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food preparation areas.
• Complete relevant food safety, temperature and cleaning records.
• Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and kept clean.
