Job summary

St John’s C of E Primary School is seeking a General Catering Assistant to support the school catering team. The role involves preparing simple meals, serving staff and pupils, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.

Working 12.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, during term time with inset days, you will join a proactive team in a thriving school environment and help deliver nutritious meals across the trust.

Qualifications

• Physical fitness for bending, lifting, pushing trolleys, and loading heavy boxes.
• Ability to operate kitchen machinery safely (training provided).
• Strong team player with good communication skills and a friendly approach.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing sandwiches, baguettes, salads, pre-mixes, and simple cooked items.
• Set up dining areas, manage queues, clear trays, wipe tables, and operate till systems for cashless catering.
• Maintain high food-safety standards including temperature checks and COSHH guidelines.
• Load pre-prepared meals into the catering vehicle and deliver to local schools when required.
