Job description

About us

This role will sit under the Housing Options Service, who work with those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness to try and prevent them from losing their accommodation. You will work alongside frontline Homelessness Officer in Prevention work, but will not hold homelessness cases. This role is primarily an Enforcement role, to meet Salford City Council's responsibilities to meet the duties under the Renters' Rights Act 2025, and to perform the responsibilities of Tenancy Relations with clients and landlords in the private rented sector.

About the Role

You will be responsible for investigating, collecting evidence and enforcing breaches/offences committed in the private rented sector that have arisen from the Renters' Rights Act 2025. This includes illegal eviction/harassment and tenancy relation breaches. You will also be working alongside tenants and landlords to mediate, assist in resolving issues and education of landlords in regard to their rights and responsibilities. In that regard, the role is somewhat of a hybrid with elements of homelessness prevention, and regulation. Tenancy Relations Enforcement Officers will not hold a homelessness caseload but will hold a caseload of enforcement cases. The role will have duty days based in Salford Civic Centre who is there to provide advice, monitor inboxes and respond to emergencies.

About you

You will need experience of working with enforcement teams in local authorities, as well as some knowledge/experience of homelessness or working with private landlords and tenants. However, it is expected that having both qualities would be rare, and as a result training will be provided for any knowledge gaps. You will have excellent communication skills & the ability to mediate/negotiate where needed, and excellent skills in regard to collecting evidence, taking statements, interviewing under PACE and escalating cases where needed.

What we need from you if you are invited to interview:
  • Passport/ID - You will be required to provide original documentation confirming your right to work in the UK. Successful candidates will also be required to provide proof of address.
  • Qualifications/registrations if applicable for the role.
