About The Role

Temporary Works Design Engineer - Permanent Opportunity

Division: Civil Engineering

Location: Manchester

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of civil, structural & geotechnical temporary works designs across the GRAHAM business. Provide technical support for live projects and tenders, ensuring all solutions are safe, buildable, and in accordance with GRAHAM policies and procedures for temporary works.

We have a team of experienced engineers and technicians with expertise in civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines, offering services such as 3D CAD, Navisworks, 3D Laser Scanning, BIM Visualization, and Vehicle Swept Path Analysis.

A Temporary Works Design Engineer must manage their workload, maximize utilization, and maintain their own CPD, while supporting staff development and knowledge transfer within the company.

Typical duties include:

1. Assisting with all aspects of temporary works design and checking for tender and construction phases of UK and Ireland projects, using all materials.
2. Preparing safe, buildable, and efficient temporary works designs in accordance with relevant codes.
3. Producing calculations, drawings, and risk assessments to meet deadlines, including designs for steel, concrete, timber, piling, crane platforms, hoarding, formwork, scaffolding, slope stability, and ground support systems.
4. Ensuring designs comply with quality procedures.
5. Consulting with relevant parties to establish design briefs considering site conditions and loads.
6. Advising on temporary conditions or loads affecting permanent works.
7. Ensuring designs are independently checked for adequacy and compliance.
8. Reviewing and certifying designs by others/subcontractors.
9. Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.
10. Providing timely advice to construction teams and adapting to site changes.
11. Supporting estimating teams with costs, schedules, and sequencing.
12. Providing information for procurement of materials and subcontractors.
13. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
14. Guiding less experienced engineers and site teams.
15. Attending site visits to inspect temporary works and resolve buildability issues.
16. Introducing improvements and innovations.
17. Working as part of a team, managing multiple priorities, and reacting to site requirements.
18. Contributing to team development and continuous improvement initiatives.
