  • Being the “key point of contact” when appointed as Project Design Lead on specific projects/bids.

  • Preparing conceptual designs with a view to ensuring safe, practical and economic solutions in accordance with current standards.

  • Preparing detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes including calculations, design risk assessments and sufficiently detailed sketches for the preparation of 3D models and working drawings.

  • Checking the design work of other team members and external designers in accordance with departmental procedures.

  • Ensuring that design work undertaken is carried out in accordance with Divisional/Segment procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained.

  • Supervising the work of others within the department as appropriate whilst maintaining responsibility for the completion of the task.

  • Arranging and undertaking site visits when appropriate.

  • Ensuring that the workflow management system is maintained with up to date and relevant data for all design tasks assigned to you.

  • Where applicable, ensuring that feedback on design work is collated and saved.

  • Identifying and sharing opportunities for improvements to departmental processes.

  • Coaching / mentoring other team members.

  • Carrying out other relevant duties as required from time to time.

  • Taking a proactive approach to training and professional development.
