Job summary

Wade Macdonald is recruiting an experienced HR Advisor (Education) for a part-time, 25-hour-per-week temporary role in Thatcham. You will work with the HR Manager providing hands-on generalist HR support focused on employee relations, safeguarding and safer recruitment, and ensuring SCR compliance.

You should bring prior HR experience in an education setting, knowledge of employment law, and the confidence to advise and guide managers. CIPD Level 5 is a bonus.

About the Job

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HR Advisor with a background in education to join the team on a part-time basis, 25 hours. Working closely with the HR Manager, you’ll provide hands‑on generalist HR support, with a particular focus on employee relations, manager guidance, compliance and the specific safeguarding requirements that come with working within an education environment.

• Managing employee relations matters, including absence and performance cases
• Advising and guiding managers on day‑to‑day people issues
• Supporting safeguarding and safer recruitment requirements
• Ensuring the Single Central Record (SCR) and associated HR records remain compliant and up to date
• Providing advice in line with employment legislation, HR policies and education‑sector requirements
• Supporting recruitment activity and reviewing job descriptions and specifications
• Providing practical guidance to managers across the employee lifecycle
• Supporting the HR Manager with wider HR projects and priorities as required

About the Successful Applicant

You’ll be an experienced HR Advisor with a strong generalist background and, importantly, previous HR experience within an education setting. This could have been gained within a school, independent school, academy, college or a similarly regulated education environment.

You’ll have a good understanding of safeguarding, safer recruitment and the Single Central Record, alongside experience managing employee relations matters and confidently advising managers. A working knowledge of employment law is essential, with CIPD Level 5 a bonus.

You’ll be comfortable working autonomously, able to quickly establish credibility with managers and be confident stepping into a temporary assignment and making an immediate contribution.
