Job summary

The JobsBoard is recruiting for a Temporary Accommodation Officer in the Thanet area. You will inspect temporary housing, organise repairs, and assist residents with information and referrals across the Housing Options team.

The role is full-time, permanent, 37 hours weekly, with a starting salary of £30,804 rising to £34,236. Flexible/hybrid working and generous leave are among the benefits. Local Government Pension Scheme membership is included.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills for caller and resident interactions
• Ability to work both in the field inspecting properties and in an office setting
• Empathy and resilience when supporting residents experiencing homelessness

Responsibilities

About the role

Thanet District Council has seen a rise in the number of homeless households approaching us for assistance, due to factors including the increasing cost of privately rented properties and a reduced supply of suitable accommodation. To assist households who are experiencing homelessness we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Temporary Accommodation Team.

You will be responsible for providing support to residents who are in temporary accommodation, both in and out of the Thanet district, making regular visits and inspections to ensure properties are in good order and instructing repairs or redecoration as necessary.

Duties may include

• Make regular visits and inspections to temporary accommodation to ensure properties are in good order
• Instruct repairs or redecoration as necessary
• Provide light support to applicants in the way of referrals, signposting and information gathering for the wider Housing Options team
• Carry out office-based duties, dealing with telephone and personal enquiries, providing housing advice and office administration

The ideal candidate

• Enthusiastic and motivated, able to work well with residents experiencing homelessness
• Comfortable with both site visits/inspections and office-based administrative duties
• Good communication skills, both over the telephone and in person
