Job summary

Somerset Council is seeking a Temporary Accommodation Officer to manage housing services for residents in temporary accommodation across Somerset. The role focuses on allocation, tenancy management and ensuring safe, well-maintained properties for households working toward longer-term housing solutions.

The post requires housing-related knowledge and experience, with strong communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing or related service supporting vulnerable individuals and families.
• Knowledge of welfare benefits and housing legislation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with customers and partners.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operation of temporary accommodation services across Somerset.
• Coordinate placements to ensure appropriate and efficient housing.
• Support residents with advice and access to services.
• Manage tenancy agreements, sign-ups and terminations.
• Work with contractors to maintain properties and ensure safety.
• Monitor rent accounts and assist with arrears management.
• Carry out property inspections and ensure health and safety compliance.
• Respond to incidents of anti-social behaviour and tenancy breaches.
• Participate in an out-of-hours emergency rota for homelessness responses.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to service improvements.
