Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution in Lincolnshire is seeking a Communications Engineer to install, commission and maintain Telecoms & SCADA Networks in the East Midlands, working with the NMC, Design and Commercial teams to deliver a reliable and secure solution. You will need experience in telecoms, a good grasp of Network Elements, and strong communication skills to plan and coordinate work.

DBS/SC clearance may be required; standby duties apply.

Job Introduction

An opportunity has become available for a Communications Engineer based in Lincoln, Grantham or Boston reporting to the Telecoms Operations Team Manager (East Midlands).

The Communications Engineer will be responsible for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of our Telecoms & SCADA Networks in the East Midlands, working with our Network Management Centre (NMC), Design and Commercial teams to deliver a reliable, resilient and secure solution in a fast and evolving space.

*Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities
  • Carry out the installation, operation and maintenance of Telecoms & SCADA Networks within the designated region
  • Work with contractors and when necessary, witness acceptance tests.
  • Managing your own working time to ensure that objectives and projects are completed in the most efficient manner.
  • Work with colleagues and customers to ensure a continuity of service.
  • Work safely and in accordance with agreed approved procedures and techniques.
  • Provide technical support to customers and where necessary liaise with colleagues to solve complex issues.
The Ideal Candidate

You would ideally have experience as a Telecoms Engineer, so you'll have an understanding of our Network Elements. If you haven't worked with us before, then you'll have an appreciation of the electrical network we support - perhaps you've worked in Safety Critical environments before.

Strong communication skills are key, so you can coordinate jobs and clearly explain issues. As you'll be in control of your diary, we'll need you to be resilient, organised and able to prioritise your workload. Team players thrive in this role, and you'll have experience using iPads, computers and our additional software.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake standby duties in accordance with an agreed rota. We'll need to see evidence of your qualifications.
