Job summary

Barclays Bank PLC is offering a Summer Internship in Northampton for a 10-week program. You will work on real projects, gain hands-on experience, and receive mentorship while exploring Barclays' technology culture.

Our Expert Programme You'll join our expert programme, a 1 year targeted, fast‑track programme designed to give you depth and breadth of experience. Participating in job‑based bespoke training from the start enabling you to go fully‑equipped into your role as you develop specialist technical expertise. Why the Technology Developer programme? As a Developer, you'll help design, build, test and maintain systems used across Barclays. This is more than writing code; you'll play a role in solving complex problems for clients and customers. You may work with technologies including Java, C++, C#, Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, containers, DevOps, cloud, machine learning, scripting and real‑time systems. To be considered for this opportunity, you must be in your penultimate year of university. You must be graduating in 2028. You'll also bring a genuine interest in technology, strong problem‑solving skills and the drive to deliver innovative solutions. The location for this role is indicated in the job title, and you will be based at that location. If you are successful in receiving a return offer to our graduate programme, your location will be the same as it was during your internship. Barclays will accept applications from candidates who require visa sponsorship to work in the UK and will provide a skilled worker visa for successful applicants if they meet the Home Office's eligibility criteria for a skilled worker visa. Successful applicants who are not eligible to receive a skilled worker visa, and who we are therefore unable to secure a skilled worker visa for, will be required to have their own legal right to work in the UK on a full‑time basis from June 2027 to August 2027.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
