About the role

If you're a Level 2 NVQ Trainee (Mechanical/Electrical) Technician, or someone looking to progress into heavy vehicles, then this opportunity might be right for you. We offer ongoing training and development into NVQ Level 3 and beyond, including IMI Level 3 HV training.

Your initial 18 months will include project work on improving vehicle type reliability, followed by NVQ Level 3 training with our training provider at Reaseheath College. To be considered, a Cat B licence is essential; Cat D is preferred, but we will offer training for this.

The successful Trainee (Mechanical/Electrical) Technician will be responsible for:

  1. Learning how to diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs, servicing, and parts replacement.
  2. Learning how to diagnose vehicle faults and specify the correct repair methods and parts.
  3. Carrying out vehicle servicing and routine examinations using handheld data capture devices if applicable.
  4. Carrying out basic parts replacement in line with structured projects.
  5. Attending on-road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries with a senior team member.
  6. Carrying out vehicle road testing to identify defects or after repairs with a senior team member.

We'll provide overalls and all the specialist tools and equipment needed.

Hourly pay rate: £15 p/h (paid weekly)

About you
  • Minimum Level 2 NVQ standard is essential.
  • Hold a Cat B licence? (essential)
  • PCV licence isn't essential; we support gaining it.
  • Hold a full UK drivers' licence? (essential)
  • Experience with or working towards overhaul and repair of vehicle systems including engines, gearboxes, drive trains, air systems, hydraulic systems, brakes, steering, suspension, cooling, and basic electrics.
  • Experience with or working towards safe operation of workshop equipment like brake testers, lifts, pressurised systems, battery chargers, jacks, scaffolding, pressure washers, diagnostic tools, welding, and body repairs.
  • Experience with diagnostic equipment such as flow meters, gauges, multimeters, testing laptops, etc.
  • Basic skills in gas and electric welding, burning, and body repairs.
  • Willing to attend manufacturer product training, DVSA vehicle inspection, and recovery training, possibly involving overnight stays.
