University of Manchester is seeking a hands-on Technician to support the heat treatment and thermomechanical processing of metals and alloys within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The role involves running furnaces, training users, and maintaining equipment to support world-class research and teaching activities.
You will work with academic staff and students, preparing specimens and contributing to innovative projects while ensuring safety and quality in all heat treatments.

This role will support a variety of different areas within the Faculty of Science and Engineering with specific focus on the heat treatment of a range of materials and the thermomechanical processing of metals and alloys. The facilities in this area are used to support world-class research, teaching and work with industry.
Part of your role will be to run and maintain a suite of furnaces, working alone or with the support or advice of other technicians, academic staff, or students. You will train users on the operation of the equipment and help with appropriate heat treatments to support their project and material needs.
This role is varied and hands on, with work ranging from preparing specimens, supporting large-scale thermomechanical testing to complex heat treatment schedules, maintaining equipment, training facility users and contributing to innovative research projects.
