Job summary

University of Manchester is seeking a hands-on Technician to support the heat treatment and thermomechanical processing of metals and alloys within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The role involves running furnaces, training users, and maintaining equipment to support world-class research and teaching activities.

You will work with academic staff and students, preparing specimens and contributing to innovative projects while ensuring safety and quality in all heat treatments.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heat treatment furnaces and following safety protocols.
• Ability to train other users on equipment operation and safety.
• Familiarity with thermomechanical testing or related materials processing workflows.

Responsibilities

• Run and maintain a suite of furnaces, solo or with staff/students.
• Train users on operation of equipment and heat treatment procedures.
• Prepare specimens and support large-scale thermomechanical testing.
• Maintain equipment and contribute to research projects.
