Job description

Job Title: Media Technician/Instructor (Part-Time, Permanent)

The Commercial and Creative Industries department at Carshalton College is seeking a qualified and experienced Media Technician/Instructor.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain and manage the Media Studios equipment and fittings, including multi-camera TV studio, lighting rig, sound desk, vision mixer, sound booth, control room, and edit suites.
  2. Assist and support academic staff during classes and supervise or assess students individually or in groups, with or without a teaching staff present.
  3. Act as an Instructor for approximately one-third of the hours and as a Technician for the remaining two-thirds.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with Media equipment, including broadcast cameras, film grip equipment, lighting, sound, and vision mixing, green screen, bugs, DVE, and keys.
  • Proficiency in software such as Premiere CC, After Effects, Photoshop, Animate CC, Illustrator, and Maya.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Mac hardware and software, particularly Creative Cloud and Maya.
  • Formal technical and/or educational qualification.
  • Valid First Aid at Work Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with sound recorders, microphones, boom poles, and rigging lights, cameras, sliders, jibs, and grip equipment.
  • Good IT skills, time management, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Additional Information:

The role offers a salary increase aligned with the annual cost of living review. Benefits include 27 days of annual leave plus up to 8 days over Christmas/New Year, 5 days Wellbeing leave, pension schemes, subsidised sports facilities, professional development, and a cycle-to-work scheme. These benefits are pro-rated for part-time staff.

Successful candidates will undergo due diligence checks, including an enhanced DBS check, references, online search, and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
