Job summary

Hull College is seeking a Technician in Plumbing to support outstanding student learning by preparing equipment and materials for practical sessions in a safe, industry-standard workshop. You will maintain stock, ensure health and safety compliance, and help deliver practical teaching.

You will work with curriculum leaders and staff to drive improvements, support student progress, and contribute to CPD and curriculum development, while upholding safeguarding commitments.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at minimum level, or equivalent.
  • NVQ 2/3 or equivalent in Plumbing qualification.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Recent subject-specific plumbing experience.
  • Ability to work across age and ability groups in different settings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment and materials for students in practical workspace.
  • Organise practical workspace areas for efficient learning simulations.
  • Maintain stock and stores and update inventories annually.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance in all practical environments.
  • Manage maintenance of equipment, tools, and learning spaces.
  • Deliver tasters, assist in events, and support course teams.

Job description

As our Technician in Plumbing, you will support outstanding student learning within by creating an industry-standard, safe, and professional working environment with responsibility for preparing equipment and materials for students within the practical workspace environment. The post holder will maintain stock and stores in an efficient manner, supporting practical delivery, and integrating current industry practices, trends, and commercial awareness.

You will play a vital role in shaping outstanding teaching, learning and assessment across the College, supporting staff to be the very best they can be and ensuring our learners receive an exceptional experience., As Technician in Plumbing, you will work closely with curriculum leaders, teachers and senior leaders to drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning and assessment. You will support, challenge and coach staff, ensuring high expectations are embedded and that quality processes deliver meaningful impact for learners.

You will:
  • Organisation of practical workspace areas to ensure effective utilisation of space and realistic work simulations and prepare materials for use by students including training aids and learning resources.
  • Overall responsibility for Health and Safety in practical workspace areas and to ensure compliance with all
  • Ensure that practical learning environments, equipment, machines and plant comply with health and safety requirements, identifying necessary actions and reporting through line management
  • Manage a rolling programme of learning space and equipment maintenance including repairs as required and for ensuring relevant checks are made on machine tools, equipment and materials I I in accordance with Health and Safety requirements (i.e. PAT testing, COSHH, etc)
  • Contribute fully to the membership of course teams, attending staff meetings and liaising with staff on individual student's progress and support needs.
  • Assist in the maintenance of records of individual student progress where appropriate, including maintaining records of student attendance and initial assessment.
  • Ensure that consumables, materials, preparation and stock control are available and prepared to the required level in practical learning environments;
  • Follow group financial procedures in ordering consumables and other practical equipment for line manager authorisation and update practical learning environment inventories annually.
  • Deliver taster sessions and attend open events as required.

You will be an experienced and credible education professional with:
  • GCSE (A -C) or equivalent in Maths and English
  • NVQ 2/3 or equivalent in Plumbing
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policy/procedures
  • Recent experience of subject specialism - Plumbing
  • Able to work across the age and ability range in classroom, workshop and one to one situation
  • Communication skills both oral and written
Desirable:
  • First aid qualification or willing to work towards
  • Experience supporting staff CPD requirements
  • Experience organising trips and visits
