Job summary

Hull College is seeking a visionary Head of Building Technologies to lead the Plumbing, Construction and Brickwork provision and drive a culture of excellence, innovation and industry relevance.

As one of the region's largest vocational institutions, you will shape curriculum, lead cross-department themes, manage budgets and deliver high-quality teaching while developing staff and partnerships with employers.

Qualifications

  • A relevant teaching qualification and subject specialism.
  • Significant experience delivering excellent teaching and leading within Further Education.
  • Experience of leading cross-departmental themes—student engagement, progress, assessment and IQA.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong data analysis skills to inform improvement.
  • Outstanding organisational and planning abilities.
  • Genuine commitment to professional development and collaborative leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and development for all staff within the department.
  • Shape and manage the curriculum offer, in collaboration with the Assistant Principal and other Institute Heads.
  • Ensure effective planning, resourcing and timetabling of all courses.
  • Drive improvements in teaching, learning and assessment—supporting staff through coaching and performance reviews.
  • Maintain and enhance the accuracy of curriculum information, data and reporting.
  • Contribute to curriculum marketing, events and employer engagement.
  • Deliver an average of 3 hours of high-quality teaching per week.
  • Represent the College at internal and external meetings, including occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Oversee departmental budgets and ensure effective financial management.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and student success.
