Job Purpose:
R&D Technician - Grangemill
To manage and lead the R&D function at Grangemill, including sample preparation, testing of trial materials, collating external testing results, and providing written reports for completed projects. Stay informed about developments within related industries and explore how IKO may benefit. Provide QA coverage as needed.
Qualifications:
- 5 GCSEs A-C (5-9) including Maths, English, and Sciences or proven experience in a similar role
- Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline
Principal Objectives:
- Ensure effective operation of the R&D function
- Produce lab trial mixes
- Prepare and test R&D materials
- Prepare test samples for external testing
- Report test results promptly and ensure appropriate actions
- Liaise with production and engineering to facilitate plant trials
- Provide holiday/illness cover in the QA lab
- Write and maintain Risk Assessments and SSOPs
- Maintain project tracking systems
- Stay updated with industry standards and technologies
- Research and develop new materials and improvements
- Produce and track KPI and measurement reports
- Conduct testing in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Issue reports within agreed standards and timeframes
Person Specification:
- Good practical knowledge of Asphalt and hot melt roofing applications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-motivated with problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail
- Confident in dealing with people at all levels
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Good report writing skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
