Job summary

Morson Talent is seeking an experienced Technician for a permanent role at the Newton Heath depot in Manchester. The role offers up to £51,000 per year and focuses on fault-finding, diagnostics, and routine maintenance of modern rolling stock.

The candidate will diagnose faults across electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, interpret schematics, and use diagnostic tools to ensure fleet reliability. A driving licence and willingness to work rotating shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Must have NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years post-apprenticeship experience in a technical/engineering role.
• Proven fault diagnosis and root cause analysis experience.
• Ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematic diagrams.
• Experience using diagnostic software, test equipment and precision measuring instruments.
• Valid driving licence.
• Flexible shift pattern including days, nights and weekends.

The Role - What Will You Be Doing?

Your responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing faults and carrying out root cause analysis across electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Interpreting electrical schematics and hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Using diagnostic software, test equipment and measuring instruments to investigate faults accurately.
• Carrying out corrective maintenance, repairs and technical interventions on modern trains within a depot environment.

• Supporting fleet availability and reliability by ensuring maintenance and repair work is completed to the required standards.

What Are We Looking For?

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

• An NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of three years' post-apprenticeship experience in a relevant technical or engineering role.
• Proven experience in fault diagnosis and root cause analysis across multiple engineering systems.
• The ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematic diagrams.
• Experience using diagnostic software, test equipment and precision measuring instruments.
• A valid driving licence.
• A flexible approach to working shifts, including days, nights and weekends.
