We currently have an exciting opportunity to join this department as a Technical Training Consultant, within our Technical Training team in one of our four offices.

What will your role look like?

This role sits within TPA’s Pensions Technical Consulting and Training Team — a national team that provides specialist expertise on the legislative and regulatory requirements affecting the Third‑Party Administration of DB (Defined Benefit), DC (Defined Contribution) and CARE pension schemes.

The purpose of the Technical Training Consultant is to strengthen the technical capability and confidence of the Pensions Administration teams. They will design and deliver training, share best‑practice guidance, and support continuous improvement by educating, mentoring, and empowering colleagues to develop their technical skills.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:
  • Provides the collaboration needed between the Pensions Admin teams and the Technical Team to ensure their technical expertise is at a consistently high standard.
  • Advocates for technical training in the Pension Admin Teams as a foundation of customer excellence.
  • Identifies gaps in technical training provision in the Pension Admin Teams and addresses those gaps with formal training and informal mentoring.
  • Contributes to preparing, updating, and delivering Pensions Technical training to TPA and the wider firm, including as part of the TPA Induction for new colleagues.
  • Identifies the training needs arising from ongoing legislative and procedural change, liaising with project teams as necessary.
  • Creates and supports a network of technical champions within the Pension Admin Teams who act as a source of technical expertise for BAU activities.
  • Ensures all training materials are produced in the Hymans house style.
  • Oversees the management of TPA Learning Channels in Aspire.
  • Coordinates student management for technical courses – both internal and external - ensuring auditable records are maintained.
  • Oversees the management of the TPA Learning & Development SharePoint Site.
  • Managing the TPA training planner.
  • Ad-hoc research as required to support the operation of the TPA Training operation.
To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Strong experience working in pensions administration including completing and checking benefit calculations referring to scheme rules and legislative requirements.
  • Evidenced skills as a communicator, both written and verbal, with a variety of audiences.
  • Skilled and passionate about explaining complex technical subjects and communicating effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Detailed knowledge of pension arrangements and related past, current and future legislation requirements.
  • You will have a problem‑solving mindset, using curiosity and proactivity to drive innovation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and able to analyse content quickly and accurately.
  • Good working knowledge of the integration between pension administration, payroll, and benefit administration processes.
  • Good understanding of non-legislative issues that impact pensions administration.
  • An understanding of Data Protection legislation, the Information Commissioner, HMRC (His Majesty s Revenue and Customs) Limits, the Pensions Regulator, rules and regulations and recent legislative changes.
  • Good time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills to successfully meet deadlines and control own workload.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ideally, we would be looking for candidates to hold a professional qualification such as Associate Membership to the Pension Management Institute (or be working towards this). However, we would also be open to applications from candidates who could bring a knowledge of the UK pensions market from relevant industry experience.

We would also encourage applications from candidates who perhaps do not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support. We would also love to hear about other knowledge and experience you may have that is not listed but could be of interest.

In Addition To a Competitive Salary, We Offer
  • A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
  • A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
  • On site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
  • A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award‑winning learning portal, Aspire.
  • Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day’s leave to celebrate your birthday.
  • Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments – with the expectation of two ‘in‑office’ days per week.
