Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution is seeking a skilled Cable Jointer Trainer to lead training at the Eakring Training Centre in the East Midlands. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality training for apprentices, new hires and staff, while shaping the design and development of innovative training programmes that use the latest learning technologies.

You will report to the Jointing Technical Training Delivery Manager and work with SME teams to ensure training assets meet evolving

Qualifications

  • Recognised City and Guilds qualification or equivalent.
  • Authorised Person with LVUG and HV Jointing competence.
  • Understanding of Distribution Safety Rules and Cable Jointing Policies.
  • Excellent communication and planning skills; IT skills including PowerPoint.
  • Experience in training, coaching others is desirable.
  • 33kV jointing experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver training in classroom and workshop settings.
  • Contribute to design and development of technical and safety training.
  • Maintain training products and ensure QA compliance.
  • Ensure training materials meet safety and technical standards.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to update courses.
  • Complete course reports and assessments accurately.

Job Introduction

Are you a passionate and experienced Cable Jointer eager to inspire the next generation? We are looking for knowledgeable individual to join our training team at our Eakring Training Centre in the East Midlands.

In this exciting role, you will report to the Jointing Technical Training Delivery Manager and lead engaging Jointing training courses. Your responsibilities will include not only teaching but also collaborating on the design and development of innovative training programmes that utilise the latest technology and interactive learning solutions. You will play a key role in enhancing our training assets and facilities, working closely with subject matter experts to ensure our training meets the evolving needs of our workforce. You’ll deliver training to apprentices, new hires and operational staff.

To thrive in this position, you should possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills and be qualified in both Low Voltage and High Voltage Jointing. Experience in coaching or mentoring others is a plus. Successful candidates will receive training to enhance their presentation and training skills.

Training will primarily take place at our Eakring Training Centre, with travel to other training centres, and operational sites across the UK. Please note there will be a need to travel to both Tipton and Taunton Training Centres to enable your completion of course portfolio and sign off as a trainer.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver quality training in classroom and workshop environments.
  • Using experience to help in the design and development of technical and safety training to meet customer requirements.
  • Support the maintenance of training products, ensuring compliance with internal quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure training products meet relevant safety and technical requirements.
  • Interact with technical experts and relevant departments to ensure training is developed to meet necessary standards.
  • Review latest technical and safety bulletins to remain knowledgeable on safety training matters.
  • Review lesson plans and presentations to ensure sessions are delivered to a high standard.
  • Support the team by carrying out peer observations to identify and implement improvements.
  • Ensure training equipment is maintained, calibrated, and tested as necessary.
  • Assess individuals carrying out practical activities to ensure they meet qualification standards.
  • Work with the Design and Innovation Team to drive improvements and new products.
  • Health & Safety, Safeguarding responsibilities to learners.
  • Completion of accurate course reports and assessments documentation
The Ideal Candidate
  • Recognised City and Guilds qualification or equivalent
  • Extensive relevant experience as an Authorised Person holding LVUG & competent in HV Jointing Work.
  • Sound understanding of the Distribution Safety Rules and Cable Jointing Policies
  • Excellent communication and time management / planning skills
  • Good degree of IT skills and be conversant with Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Experience of managing teams or work activities desirable
  • The following are desirable
    • Previous training experience, knowledge of coaching of others would be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of Safeguarding, or working with young adults is desirable but training will be given.
    • 33kV jointing experience

The successful applicant will be expected to study for and successfully complete a suitable professional training qualification. Although this role will be based at Eakring, the successful candidate will be required to travel to other sites as required to meet the needs of the business. A full valid driving licence is required to be held as part of this role.

You will be working with employees of various ages and some who are aged between 16 and 18. National Grid have a responsibility to ensure young people are safe within the business and we will require a DBS check to be undertaken by the successful applicant at the Enhanced level.

Short listed candidates will be required to create a training presentation on a given topic which you will present in the interview.
