Job summary

Reaseheath College and University Centre is seeking a Technical Trainer and Coach (Tutor / Assessor Carpentry & Joinery) to lead high‑quality apprenticeship training. You will deliver practical Carpentry & Joinery sessions, assess progress, and develop vocational competence with strong employer engagement.

The role is permanent, 37 hours per week, based on the Nantwich campus. You will contribute to recruitment, CPD, safeguarding, and collaborative delivery with industry partners.

Qualifications

  • Hold a relevant vocational qualification in Carpentry and Joinery or Construction.
  • Have substantial industry experience within Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Hold, or be willing to work towards, a recognised teaching and/or assessor qualification.
  • Demonstrate experience coaching, mentoring, training, or assessing in a vocational/apprenticeship setting.
  • Strong organisational, communication and IT skills, including electronic portfolio systems.
  • Motivate apprentices and build effective working relationships with employers and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and learner success.
  • Able to manage a busy caseload and prioritise workload.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Carpentry and Joinery training in line with Apprenticeship Standard and college procedures.
  • Lead and support apprentices through practical activities to develop vocational competence.
  • Provide high-quality training, coaching, mentoring and assessment inside college and through workplace visits.
  • Conduct apprentice recruitment, inductions, initial assessments, Skills Scans and prior learning calculations.
  • Monitor progress through formal reviews, action plans and e-portfolio tracking.
  • Collaborate with employers to maximise apprenticeship opportunities and progress.
  • Embed Functional Skills, British Values, Prevent Duty, safeguarding and health and safety.
  • Maintain accurate learner records meeting compliance requirements.
  • Engage in standardisation, quality assurance and CPD activities.
  • Support college promotion through open days and employer events.

Reaseheath College is a forward-thinking and dynamic college providing an excellent educational experience to over 4,500 students each year. Our Apprenticeship team plays a vital role in supporting apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for successful careers within the construction industry.

About the role

The Carpentry and Joinery provision works closely with employers to deliver high-quality apprenticeship training, ensuring apprentices gain both practical experience and industry-recognised qualifications while meeting employer and sector needs.

Key responsibilities
  • Deliver Carpentry and Joinery training in line with the Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship Standard and approved college procedures.
  • Lead and support apprentices through a range of practical activities that enhance learning and develop vocational competence.
  • Deliver high-quality training, coaching, mentoring, and assessment both within college and through workplace visits to support apprentice progress and evidence gathering.
  • Conduct apprentice recruitment activities, inductions, initial assessments, Apprentice Skills Scans, and calculations of prior learning.
  • Monitor and review apprentice progress through regular formal reviews, action planning, and use of electronic portfolio systems to track achievement and 20% off-the-job training requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with employers to maximise apprenticeship development opportunities and support apprentice achievement.
  • Embed Functional Skills, British Values, Prevent Duty, safeguarding, and health and safety within programme delivery.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and ensure all documentation meets DfE, Ofsted, EPAO, and internal compliance requirements.
  • Participate in standardisation, internal quality assurance activities, team meetings, self-assessment, and continuous professional development.
  • Support college promotional activities including open days, employer engagement events, and marketing activities where required.
The successful candidate will
  • Hold a relevant vocational qualification in Carpentry and Joinery or Construction.
  • Have substantial industry experience within the Carpentry and Joinery sector.

Industry professionals joining the College in an academic role, will complete their Further Education Training whilst in post.
