Qualifications

  • Practical engineer with vessel management experience.

  • Familiarisation with ISM compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations and the company safety policy.
  • Provide technical expert support to engineers.
  • Provide input on specifications and oversee refits, upgrades and new builds.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to fix defects within SLAs.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Production Controller to create daily engineer plans.
  • Coordinate dry-dockings with planner and Dry-dock Manager to meet time, cost, quality.
  • Provide technical oversight during dry-docking inputs.
  • Define and implement fleet improvements with senior team; prepare analyses and business cases for approval.
  • Monitor defects and implement long-term reliability solutions.
  • Create modifications to improve reliability and efficiency; document procedures.
  • Investigate delays to determine root causes and prevent recurrences.
  • Manage warranty claims and ensure suppliers meet SLAs.
  • Manage contractor relationships as directed by Head of Engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with MCA, PLA, and ISM Code.
  • Prepare for external audits with year-round compliance.
  • Support investigations and root-cause analysis; drive corrective actions within SMS.
  • Manage hull and machinery insurance claims from incident to invoicing.
  • Review vessel calendar and maintenance schedules to boost productivity and reduce costs.
  • Provide high level customer service.
  • Promote teamwork with safety and customer focus.
  • Develop and deliver training on quality, safety, and ops best practices.
  • Identify barriers to change and implement solutions.
  • Pursue improvements in processes, environmental standards, safety, quality and service.
  • Undertake other duties as required by HOD.

JOB SUMMARY

This is a crucial role within the Engineering Leadership team that will require working non 9 – 5 hours. The Technical Superintendent will support the 24/7 engineering operation from the Head Office in London with regular travel to dry dock and occasional travel to key suppliers and shipyards.

  • Practical engineer with technical vessel management experience.
  • Experience with management of Statutory and Classification requirements.
  • Experience in high speed vessel propulsion systems.
  • Project management experience of bespoke vessel modifications and upgrades.
  • Experience in budget management and KPI reporting.
  • Familiarisation with the management of ISM compliance.
  • Familiarisation with the IMO High Speed Craft Code.
  • Experience working High speed aluminium vessels.
  • Relevant experience of working in high pressure environments whilst maintaining high levels of safety and maintenance practices.
  • A strong track record in building good working relationships across diverse business areas and functions.
  • Have a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to establish good professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Previous experience and knowledge working to ISO 9001, 14001 standards.

Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure you comply with all Health and Safety regulations and safe working practice as required by current legislation and the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and practices.
  • Technical expert support for the engineers.
  • Provide technical input to the development of specification and oversight of refits, enhancements and upgrades and the construction of new build vessels.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and internal resource to ensure the rectification of vessel defects within SLAs.
  • Work with Engineering Production Controller to produce a daily plan for engineers to follow.
  • Work alongside the Engineering Production Controller and Dry-dock Manager to ensure annual, intermediate and unscheduled dry-dockings are planned and scoped with appropriate resource to time, quality and cost.
  • Provide technical support and oversight of vessels during dry-docking inputs.
  • Work with the other members of the senior engineering team to define, implement and review technical improvements to the fleet and engineering facilities, providing full technical analysis, creating of business cases for approval and reporting as required and defined by HOD.
  • Monitor defects for trends and implement long term solutions to enhance fleet reliability.
  • Create modifications to improve reliability, efficiency and customer experience, ensuring documentation is created for engineers to follow.
  • Investigate all delays and cancellations to understand root cause and look to implement actions to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Ensure all warranty claims are made and ensure suppliers meet SLAs to rectify.
  • Manage contractor/supplier relationships as directed by Head of Engineering and Vessel Appearance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable maritime regulations, including MCA legislation, Port of London Authority (PLA) requirements, and International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
  • Ensure the department is ready for any external audits at any time, including but not limited to the annual DOC audit, ensuring consistent, year round compliance.
  • Support investigations into incidents, and non-conformances; assist Quality Manager identify root causes and drive corrective and preventive actions to fully close out the issue in a timely manner within our SMS.
  • Internally manage hull and machinery insurance claims from incident through to invoicing.
  • Perform periodic reviews of vessel calendar and hours based maintenance schedules to identify opportunities to increase productivity and operational cost savings.
  • Provide and promote the highest level of customer service.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining effective team work within departments, ensuring that there is always a safety and customer centric focus embedded in all aspects of work.
  • Develop and deliver training to staff on quality standards, safety awareness, and operational best practices.
  • Identify barriers to change and find ways to create solutions to enable change to take place.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve personal, business processes, environmental standards and overall business performance with a focus on safety, quality and customer experience
  • Undertake any other relevant duties or reasonable request as requested by the HOD and any member of the senior management team.
