Job summary

Huntress is recruiting a Technical Sales Support Engineer in Peterborough to combine engineering knowledge with customer and commercial activity, supporting the sales team with enquiries and quotations. You will interpret technical specifications, review customer requirements, perform basic calculations, and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to deliver viable solutions.

Are you technically minded and looking for a role where you can combine your engineering knowledge with customer and commercial activity?

We are working with an established engineering-led business in Peterborough that is looking to appoint a Technical Sales Support Engineer to join its commercial team.

This is an office-based role supporting the sales function with customer enquiries, tenders and quotations. You will be responsible for understanding what the customer is asking for, reviewing technical specifications and working with internal teams and external suppliers to establish the most appropriate solution.

You don't need to be a qualified engineer or come from a traditional engineering design background. However, you will need to be technically confident, commercially aware and comfortable working with engineering products, specifications and technical information.

The Role

Working as part of the sales team, you will:

• Review customer enquiries, specifications and requirements and determine the appropriate technical solution.
• Support the preparation of quotations, tenders and customer proposals.
• Interpret technical information, drawings and product specifications.
• Carry out basic technical calculations, including weights and dimensions where required.
• Work closely with sales, engineering, operations and workshop teams to ensure customer requirements can be delivered.
• Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers and other technical contacts to obtain information and confirm product suitability.
• Provide technical information and guidance to colleagues throughout the sales process.
• Help ensure quotations are accurate, technically viable and commercially competitive.
• Support customer orders from initial enquiry through to quotation and order.
• Assist with identifying alternative products or solutions where appropriate.
• Keep up to date with products, technical developments and market opportunities.
• Attend occasional customer meetings, exhibitions and industry events where required.
• Contribute ideas for improving processes, systems and ways of working.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines technical understanding with excellent communication and organisational skills.

You may currently be working in a technical sales, sales support, estimating, quotations, applications, engineering or manufacturing environment.

You should have:

• Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing or similarly technical environment.
• The ability to understand and interpret technical specifications and customer requirements.
• A logical and analytical approach to solving technical problems.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with specifications and quotations.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
• The ability to manage several enquiries or projects at the same time.
• Good commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of accurate quotations.
• Good IT skills, including confidence working with Microsoft Office and Excel.
• A proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
• An engineering, mechanical engineering or related technical qualification would be advantageous. However, relevant practical experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment will be considered in place of a degree.
