Job summary

Automation Experts in Plymouth is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to join a small, high-performing Business Development team. You will work across sales, engineering and technical development, from understanding customer requirements and preparing quotations to equipment demonstrations and commissioning.

The role requires experience in technical sales or an engineering background with a customer-facing interest.

Qualifications

• Experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering or a similar role.
• Engineering background with interest in customer-facing roles or recent engineering graduate.
• Technically curious with a practical, hands-on approach.
• Confident communicating with customers and internal teams.
• Comfortable with CAD and technical information.
• Accurate and organised when preparing quotations and costings.
• Commercially aware with proactive approach.

Responsibilities

• Produce product costings from Bills of Materials.
• Prepare quotations for standard and bespoke equipment.
• Speak with customers to understand applications and requirements.
• Create CAD-based process diagrams to demonstrate equipment capabilities.
• Support spare parts quotations and sales order processing.
• Work with Engineering and technical teams to develop solutions.
• Progress towards customer demonstrations and commissioning.
• Identify commercial opportunities and contribute to business development.

Technical Sales Engineer

Whether you are a recent graduate or already have a few years experience in technical sales this could be the opportunity for you.

Are you technically minded, commercially aware and enjoy working directly with customers to develop practical engineering solutions?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, high-performing Business Development team, working across sales, engineering and technical development. You’ll play a key role throughout the customer journey, from understanding their requirements and preparing quotations through to equipment demonstrations and commissioning.

The Role:

• Produce product costings from Bills of Materials
• Prepare quotations for standard and bespoke equipment
• Speak directly with customers to understand their applications and requirements
• Create CAD-based process diagrams to demonstrate equipment capabilities
• Support spare parts quotations and sales order processing
• Work closely with Engineering and technical teams to develop suitable solutions
• Develop a strong practical understanding of the equipment
• Progress towards carrying out customer demonstrations and commissioning
• Identify commercial opportunities and contribute to business development

The Person:

• Experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering or a similar role or recently graduated with a relevant engineering degree.
• Alternatively, an engineering/technical background with an interest in moving into a customer-facing role or recent graduate in an engineering field
• Technically curious with a practical, hands-on approach
• Confident communicating with customers and internal teams
• Comfortable working with CAD and technical information
• Accurate and organised when preparing quotations and costings
• Commercially aware with a proactive approach
• Able to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively
• Willing to travel within the UK and internationally
