Job summary

Vantage Consulting in Reading is seeking a Proposals Engineer to shape automation solutions for diverse industries. Hybrid working and a salary of up to £60k plus car allowance reflect the role's technical depth and customer-facing nature.

You will collaborate with clients, design control architectures using PLCs/SCADA/HMI, prepare detailed proposals, and work with engineering teams to ensure feasible delivery. A solid background in systems integration and hands-on automation is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics, or related field.
• 3+ years in control systems integration, automation engineering or technical sales.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Full UK driving license or legal authorisation to drive in the UK.

Proposals Engineer

Reading (hybrid working)

Responsibilities:

• Represent the culture and values of the business internally and externally.
• Collaborate with customers to understand automation and control requirements across industries such as Utilities, Food and Beverage, FMCG, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Process, Manufacturing.
• Attend and complete detailed site surveys to ensure proposal accuracy
• Review technical scoping information inclusive of various engineering documentation to generate a robust solution
• Design and propose control system architectures using PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and industrial networking technologies.
• Prepare detailed technical proposals, cost estimates, and scope-of-work documents.
• Deliver product and system presentations to clients, including live demos and site visits.
• Work closely with engineering and project management teams to ensure proposed solutions are feasible and aligned with delivery capabilities.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of automation technologies, industry standards, and vendor products (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric).
• Attend trade shows, industry events, and client meetings to promote solutions and gather market intelligence.
• Help maintain customer CRM with latest opportunities and sales pipeline / forecasting

Experience:

• Have previously worked in the Systems Integration industry
• Have worked in one or more of the following industries: Utilities, Food and Beverage, FMCG, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Process, Manufacturing.
• Be a high calibre, ambitious self-starter
• Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate empathetically with emotional intelligence.
• Have attention to detail as well as a systematic and structured approach to working.
• Be adaptable to a range of environments and eager to learn on a constant basis.
• Be able to meet tight deadlines consistently and with accuracy/quality.
• Understand an automation project lifecycle from concept through to completion.
• Be fluent in written and spoken English.
• Have a full UK driving license or be legally authorised to drive within the UK
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in control systems integration, automation engineering, or technical sales.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation platforms (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems).
• Familiarity with control panel design, instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in using vendor software tools to help create proposals
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and industrial facilities regularly (surveys, proposal meetings, etc).
• Fluent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Project)
