Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Project Manager to join our client in Gourock for a 12-month fixed term contract.

As a Technical Project Manager, you will provide support to deliver excellent project management for all project work assigned to the Standards and Performance team related to vessel improvements, modifications and upgrades.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

  • Hold an unlimited Class 1 or 2 Marine Engineers Certificate, equivalent Naval Architecture Qualification, Electrical / Mechanical Engineering HND or an APM Project Management qualification with extensive marine experience.
  • Experience of leading on projects in a similar role.
  • Be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in all aspects of leading project management. Demonstrate experience of scoping a project, project management and implementation of small to medium scale projects in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in all aspects of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collate and report effective project information.
  • Knowledge of programme office / project processes and practices and use of project tools and methodologies in conjunction with good understanding of full project lifecycle. (Desirable)
  • Experience in commercial ship operations and management, sea going Marine (Deck) or Engineering background advantageous. (Desirable)
  • Experience in quality management systems, processes and procedures. (Desirable)

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Lead and manage the delivery of projects on time, within cost and excellent quality following the vessel improvement process.
  • Attending ships prior and during installation and commissioning as necessary, working with all stakeholders, to achieve successful project delivery and closure.
  • Manage assigned project budgets ensuring spent is forecast and controlled within budget limits. Production of reports as required.
  • Ensure detailed project planning is carried out establishing budget, cost control and supervision of suppliers and contractors to ensure all equipment installation and commissioning work is carried out with the objective of achieving fully reliable and operational systems to the agreed specifications.
  • Project Specifications, project planning, developing and meeting project budgets, project implementation and procurement, delivery and contractor management, quality of work, testing commissioning and setting up monitoring and information systems which will be transferred to Business as Usual on completion of the project. Project approval and termination and subsequent lessons learned review.
  • Ensuring Management of Change Process is used to plan and deliver assigned project work.
  • Responding to queries and questions associated with project work (e.g., investigations into near misses and technical incidents).
  • Lead as liaison between the company, contractors, Classification Society and Flag State on assigned project works.
  • Liaison with relevant Chief Engineers, crews and Technical and Marine Superintendents to ensure they are aware of any on board changes as a result of project work. Pre-approval and vetting of changes and post approval of project work completion and updated processes and procedures as a result of the changes implemented.
  • Liaison with the Maintenance Management Team to identify any changes to assets (equipment fit etc) and any update to maintenance requirements as a result of assigned Projects.
  • Liaison with the Supplier Requirements team to ensure OEMs / Service agent contracts are in place and any other contracts required for parts and support.
  • Support with Technical reviews of project work delivered elsewhere in the business, where delegated by Senior Projects Manager, reviewing and signing off project delivery plans and designs from a Technical Point of view.
  • In conjunction with the Procurement Department, procure subcontractors and parts on the best terms possible to minimise project spend but ensuring maintenance of quality of delivered systems.
  • Participation and chairing in specified project meetings as directed by Senior Projects Manager.
  • To support Continual Improvement processes and improve the processes and procedures for project management, ensuring lessons are identified and learned post every event and shared and aligned with wider stakeholders.
