Technical Product Owner | Python & AI Location: London

About the Role

We are looking for a technically minded Product Owner to help shape and deliver innovative digital products, with a particular focus on Python development, artificial intelligence and data-driven solutions. Working within a complex, large-scale public service environment, you will bridge the gap between business stakeholders, software engineers, data specialists and AI teams to turn real-world challenges into practical, scalable technology solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who combines strong product ownership skills with a genuine understanding of software development and AI. You will be comfortable discussing technical solutions with engineers, understanding Python-based applications and helping guide the development and integration of AI capabilities into production-ready products.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring development priorities align with business objectives, user needs and technical requirements.
• Work closely with Python developers, AI engineers, data specialists and other technical stakeholders to define and deliver product features.
• Translate complex business challenges into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and actionable technical requirements.
• Support the development and implementation of AI-powered solutions, including identifying opportunities to improve processes, services and user experiences.
• Engage directly with developers to understand Python-based solutions, review technical approaches and make informed product decisions.
• Collaborate on the integration of AI models, APIs, data pipelines and existing software systems.
• Balance new feature development with technical debt, performance, security, scalability and maintainability.
• Facilitate backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews and other Agile ceremonies.
• Gather feedback from stakeholders and end users, using insights and measurable outcomes to inform product priorities.
• Ensure solutions are developed with appropriate consideration for data privacy, security, governance, reliability and responsible AI practices.
• Communicate product vision, progress, dependencies and risks clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven experience as a Technical Product Owner, Technical Product Manager or in a similar product-focused technology role.
• Strong understanding of software development, with practical exposure to Python-based applications and development workflows.
• Experience working closely with software engineers to shape technical requirements and deliver software products.
• A good understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning or generative AI, including how these technologies can be applied to real-world problems.
• Ability to translate business requirements into well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised backlogs.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments, including Scrum or Kanban.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align competing priorities across technical and business teams.
• Confidence discussing APIs, integrations, databases, data flows and software architecture with engineering teams.
• A pragmatic, analytical approach to problem-solving, prioritisation and decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

• Experience delivering technology products within public services, healthcare, regulated industries or other complex organisational environments.
• Exposure to AI-enabled applications, large language models (LLMs), generative AI or intelligent automation.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, version control and modern software engineering practices.
• Understanding of data governance, information security, privacy requirements and responsible AI principles.
• Experience integrating third-party AI services, models or APIs into existing applications.
• Familiarity with product discovery, user research, outcome-based roadmaps and product performance metrics.
