Job description

Technical Product Owner - Alderley Edge - £55,000-£60,000 - Hybrid (2 days onsite)

We are seeking a technically minded and commercially aware Technical Product Owner to join our Digital Development team in Alderley Edge.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver digital products and platforms within a growing organisation operating in a regulated environment.

Working closely with business stakeholders, developers, designers and testers, you will translate business needs into clear product requirements, manage and prioritise the product backlog, and ensure development activity delivers measurable business value.

Combining strong product ownership skills with a solid understanding of software development and technical solutions, you will help deliver secure, scalable and user-focused digital products that support business objectives and enhance the customer experience.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Development, you will play a key role in product strategy, delivery planning and continuous improvement, working collaboratively across business and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own, manage and prioritise the product backlog, ensuring development activity aligns with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Gather and analyse business requirements, translating them into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting specifications.
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps, balancing business priorities, technical considerations and delivery timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, designers, testers and technical specialists throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Facilitate backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Act as the key point of contact for product-related decisions, providing clarity on priorities, scope and expected outcomes.
  • Work with technical teams to understand system architecture, APIs, integrations, data flows and technical dependencies.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), product validation and release readiness.
  • Ensure appropriate consideration is given to information security, data protection, regulatory compliance and governance.
  • Identify and manage delivery risks, issues and dependencies, escalating where appropriate.
  • Monitor product performance and user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain product documentation and delivery reporting using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Champion continuous improvement across digital products, customer experience and Agile delivery practices.
About You

You will be an effective communicator who can bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, making informed decisions and ensuring product development delivers value.

You will ideally have:
  • Experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst or in a similar software delivery role.
  • Practical experience working within Agile frameworks, including Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Proven experience managing and prioritising product backlogs.
  • The ability to translate business requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria and clear delivery requirements.
  • A strong understanding of software development lifecycles and digital product delivery.
  • Good technical knowledge of software architecture, APIs, integrations, data flows and system dependencies.
  • Experience working closely with software development teams to deliver new functionality and product enhancements.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence or similar Agile delivery tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • The ability to identify risks, resolve challenges and manage competing priorities effectively.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working within financial services or another regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Awareness of information security practices, including SIEM, vulnerability management and endpoint security.
  • Understanding of data protection, UK GDPR and relevant compliance requirements.
  • Experience delivering complex digital platforms or solutions involving third-party integrations.
Qualifications
  • A degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Systems or a related discipline is desirable, although equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • A relevant qualification in Agile delivery, Product Ownership or Business Analysis is advantageous. A commitment to ongoing professional development is also valued.
