Job summary

Civica Transport delivers fleet and transport management solutions, enabling safer, more efficient vehicle fleets. As Technical Product Manager, you’ll create detailed technical requirements and feed a backlog that aligns with Civica’s roadmaps and global GovTech goals.

Lead by example, transform complex problems into simple user stories with acceptance criteria, and drive delivery with cross‑functional teams across engineering, design, marketing, and customer success in a cloud‑based SaaS

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a Technical Product Manager in a modern software organisation.
  • Ability to create and manage backlogs, writing clear user stories with acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to prioritise features and tasks based on customer needs, goals and feasibility.
  • Strong technical discussions, code reviews and architecture decisions.
  • Regularly analyse customer needs, pain points and motivations to deliver value.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure solutions meet product requirements with technical feasibility.
  • Manage product backlogs and refine requirements into user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives to align priorities.
  • Triaging and resolving product issues with engineering and stakeholders.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies for on-time delivery.
  • Make trade-off decisions with the Product Manager when priorities clash.
  • Work with engineering, design, marketing, commercial and customer success teams.
  • Analyze data to inform decisions, measure performance and identify improvements.
  • Support knowledge sharing and production of product decision and design docs.

As a Technical Product Manager, you are responsible for equipping your team with detailed technical requirements through a product backlog to build high quality products, delivering to our product roadmaps that align to Civica’s strategic goals.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you are able to take complex business problems and break them into simple, elegant and highly effective user stories, ensuring the end product aligns with the company’s mission and vision of becoming a global GovTech champion.

You are an expert in creating clear and precise customer and outcome focused requirements, you will lead by example and have hands on execution of the product delivery through product backlogs, ensuring that product development practices and backlog aligns to our roadmaps and our global vision.

What you will do to be successful in this role
Key responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure that technical solutions meet product requirements whilst providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure that solutions are technically feasible, scalable, maintainable, and meet quality standards
  • Guide the engineering process by managing product backlogs, creating and refining product requirements into user stories with clear acceptance criteria
  • Participating in team ceremonies, such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, to ensure the engineering team has a clear understanding of product priorities
  • Triaging and resolving product-related issues, working with the engineering team to address bugs, and communicating with stakeholders to manage expectations
  • Identify upcoming risks and proactively implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring successful product delivery
  • Together with the Product Manager, make trade-off decisions when faced with conflicting priorities, resource constraints, or technical limitations
  • Work closely with various stakeholders, including engineering, design, marketing, commercial, and customer success teams to ensure successful product development
  • Analysing data and metrics to inform product decisions, measure product performance, and identify areas for improvement
  • Support a strong culture of knowledge sharing and product decision and design documentation
  • Demonstrated experience as a Technical Product Manager, working in a modern software or product organisation
  • Proven ability to create and manage backlogs, writing clear user stories with concise and detailed acceptance criteria
  • Capable of prioritising features, requirements, and tasks based on customer needs, business goals, and technical feasibility
  • Strong technical background with experience in software development · Competency to participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture decisions
  • Continuously seeking to understand customer needs, pain points, and motivations to develop products that meet customer requirements and deliver value
  • Strong analytical skills to collect, analyse, and interpret data to inform product decisions
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customer success
  • Flexible to adapt to changing market conditions, customer needs, and business priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills to overcome technical, business, and customer challenges
  • Operates with Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, to manage product development and collaborate with engineering teams
  • Understanding of programming concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns
  • Knowledge of technical architecture, including system design, scalability, and performance optimisation
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, commercial teams, and senior management
  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams
  • Experience with market research, competitive analysis, and market trend analysis
  • Familiarity with UX design principles and human-centred design methodologies
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Experience with agile development methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or Lean
