Job summary

The Moredun Foundation's Aquaculture division is seeking a Weekend Technical Officer to provide 12 hours of weekend cover at the East Lothian aquaculture facility. The role involves fish husbandry and supporting aquarium operations, with a fixed-term appointment for 12 months.

Applicants should have a biological degree or equivalent, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ideally, knowledge of GLP/VICH-GCP and prior lab/aquaculture experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• A biological degree or recognised Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
• Good interpersonal and communications skills and effective organizational abilities.
• Ideally you will have a good understanding of research quality management systems (eg VICH-GCP, GLP).
• Experience of working with fish or other aquatic animals in a research environment.
• Experience of working in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide weekend fish husbandry and support aquarium operations.
• Troubleshoot and maintain aquarium systems and equipment.
• Record keeping and support for Aquaculture studies and vaccines testing.
• Assist with general lab and facility duties as part of weekend cover.

The role

We are seeking applications for a Technical Officer to provide weekend cover within the Aquaculture division of Moredun Scientific (a commercial subsidiary of the Moredun Foundation, a registered charity). You will join a team of people involved in the conduct of Aquaculture studies testing vaccines, therapeutics and other fish health products for use in farmed fish.

The post will be based at an aquaculture research facility in East Lothian.

You will be responsible for fish husbandry and supporting the operation of the aquarium. The post will be providing cover at the weekends. This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months.

Experience required

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have;
