Job summary

East Herts District Council is seeking a proactive officer to handle statutory nuisances including noise, odour and smoke, with enforcement responsibilities where appropriate. The role also involves visits to venues and investigations of complaints to protect public health in East Hertfordshire.

The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications or experience, strong organisational and written skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service requests and advise on statutory nuisances related to noise, odour and smoke, pests, drainage and public health issues.
  • Undertake inspections, investigate complaints, and prepare prosecution files under supervision.
  • Only undertake enforcement actions as appropriate.
  • Visit and assess venues/events using sound equipment when required.

Salary: £38009 - £41506 (inclusive of local weighting)

What will you be doing?
  • Responding to service requests and giving appropriate advice on matters relating to statutory nuisances primarily noise, odour and smoke. In addition to requests concerning pests and drainage and general public health issues.
  • Undertake inspections, investigate complaints, prepare prosecution files under instruction of senior colleagues and undertake project work where directed
  • You will be empowered to undertake appropriate enforcement action as necessary.
  • Visit and assess venues and events using sound equipment where required
About you
  • As an ideal candidate, you will have:
  • A relevant qualification or experience within the discipline applied for and a working knowledge of the legislation and regulations relating to those areas.
  • The ability to deal with challenging situations using tact and discretion.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work without supervision, prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written skills, with the ability to write schedules of work, summarise accurately and convey complex information.
