Job summary

MSS, a specialist materials testing business in Scotland, seeks a Technical Manager to lead site and laboratory operations. You will ensure quality, compliance and technical excellence across the business, while developing staff and driving audits.

You will report to the National Quality Manager and work hybrid, attending Inverness and East Kilbride offices as required, with travel to other locations for audits and support.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction materials testing.
• Background in UKAS-accredited environments and quality management systems.
• Experience leading technical, quality or laboratory functions.
• Knowledge of construction materials testing standards and best practice.
• Strong auditing and quality assurance experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience developing and training technical teams.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across laboratory and site testing operations.
• Support development and improvement of quality management systems.
• Lead technical training and competency development activities.
• Plan and undertake technical audits across locations.
• Ensure compliance with UKAS requirements and industry standards.
• Support equipment control, calibration and quality assurance procedures.
• Review technical reporting for accuracy and consistency.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across testing and quality processes.
• Collaborate with operational teams to maintain high technical standards.
• Coach and mentor staff through structured training programmes.
