Job summary

MSS is a specialist materials testing business seeking a Technical Manager to lead technical operations across Scotland. You will oversee site and laboratory testing, ensuring UKAS and industry standards while driving staff development and quality improvements.

The role is hybrid with attendance at Inverness and East Kilbride offices as required, and includes audits across locations to support technical excellence and compliance.

Qualifications

• Significant experience within construction materials testing.
• Experience in UKAS-accredited environments and quality management systems.
• Experience leading technical, quality or laboratory functions.
• Knowledge of construction materials testing standards and best practice.
• Strong auditing and quality assurance experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience developing and training technical teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across laboratory and site testing operations.
• Support the ongoing development and improvement of quality management systems.
• Lead technical training and competency development activities.
• Plan and undertake technical audits across operational locations.
• Ensure compliance with UKAS requirements and industry standards.
• Support equipment control, calibration and quality assurance procedures.
• Review technical reporting to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across testing and quality processes.
• Work closely with operational teams to maintain high technical standards.
• Support the development of staff through coaching, mentoring and structured training programmes.
