Job summary

Ibstock Plc is recruiting a Technical Manager for the Chesterton factory in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. The role will oversee procurement, clay extraction, and daily kiln and dryer operations while driving product development, quality assurance and environmental systems.

The successful candidate will lead a technical and quality team, implement continuous improvement, ensure safety compliance, and liaise across departments to meet production targets and strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable management experience.
• Knowledge of Kiln & Dryer Operations.
• A high degree of self-motivation.
• The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
• The ability to understand, accept and achieve targets & deadlines.
• Demonstrable organisational skills including efficient planning and implementation of systems and procedures.
• A high degree of computer literacy and numeracy and a competent user of all Microsoft applications.
• Leadership and people management skills and the ability to build, motivate, develop and improve the team.
• Demonstrable ability to implement structured problem solving techniques, provide solutions and delegate.

Responsibilities

• Procurement and testing of production materials.
• Management of clay extraction, stockpiling, blending and usage.
• Overseeing kiln and dryer operations.
• Coordination of product development and innovation.
• Management of the Factory Quality Assurance system - ISO 9001.
• Management of the Factory Environmental system - ISO 14001.
• Interdepartmental liaison to achieve objectives.
• People management, motivation and development through performance reviews.
• Apply IMS tools and continuous improvement practices.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
• Analyze production data to inform targets and objectives.
• Develop systems and standards for 5S housekeeping.
