Job summary

Salter Grange Limited is seeking an experienced Technical Manager (M&E) to lead the technical delivery of building services projects. The role focuses on pre-construction, tendering, and coordinating M&E design from concept to handover, working with consultants and design teams.

You will read drawings, manage subcontractors, oversee procurement, monitor costs and risk, and contribute to QA and health and safety processes. A full UK driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a growing mechanical and electrical contractor, is looking for an experienced Technical Manager. This role suits someone with a technical and design engineering background in M&E and proven pre-construction and tender experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical side of tenders: review drawings and specifications, identify risks, and develop value engineering options to win work.
• Develop and coordinate M&E design from commencement to handover, leading liaison with consultants and design teams.
• Identify design clashes and installation issues, and provide practical solutions.
• Review technical submissions, equipment selections and manufacturers' information.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager, Senior M&E Engineer or similar.
• M&E building services design and technical coordination background.
• Strong pre-construction and tender experience.
• Ability to read and understand M&E drawings and specifications.
• Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers, with good commercial and contract awareness.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
• CIBSE or IET membership.
• SMSTS and CSCS.
• AutoCAD, Revit or BIM.
• NEC and/or JCT contracts, and design-and-build experience.
