About the role:

To lead and oversee the technical aspects of projects, teams, and operations for the product and systems testing business, including third-party accredited quality systems. To act as an expert in specific engineering areas, applying practical technical knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving to deliver business objectives and drive organizational success.

Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management:
  • Mentor and manage staff, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet business needs.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth, lead projects, and leverage expertise and resources effectively.
  • Promote staff development through target setting and encouraging responsibility and ownership.
  • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and career development.
  • Share best practices and insights to enhance company-wide performance.
  • Act as deputy for senior management when required.
Financial Management & Performance:
  • Manage commercial and financial activities in collaboration with senior management.
  • Develop business cases for new opportunities and existing activities, including costs and revenue projections.
  • Optimize resource allocation for cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor competitors and market positioning.
  • Provide reports to assess business performance.
Operational Excellence & Efficiency:
  • Identify technical challenges and troubleshoot issues.
  • Develop strategies to optimise efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve service delivery.
  • Drive development and implementation of testing procedures.
  • Manage personal and personnel development.
  • Ensure equipment suitability and availability.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Quality:
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 17025, ISO 9001, and other quality procedures.
  • Engage stakeholders for policy alignment.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing.
  • Ensure tasks meet high technical and quality standards.
  • Review and approve test reports and proposals.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Technical Expertise:
  • Monitor industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Provide technical guidance and training.
  • Develop and leverage technical expertise to enhance organisational visibility.
Customer & Market Focus:
  • Ensure excellent customer experience.
  • Advise customers on test options and requirements.
  • Respond to technical enquiries.
  • Support strategic initiatives and business plans.
About you:
  • In-depth building services experience from design, construction, or operations background.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including ISO 9001.
  • Practical experience in designing, installing, commissioning, or operating building services is desirable.
  • Technical expertise in building services engineering.
  • Strong network and reputation in the industry.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to project manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Continuous learning mindset and adaptability.
Qualifications:

Required: Professional/academic degree in Metallurgy or related STEM field, or 10+ years operational experience.
