A high-growth start-up who are looking to transform the sports and entertainment sponsorship landscape are on the lookout for a Technical Lead to join them in Central London on a hybrid basis. Offering a clear path of progression to CTO level, they need someone to help bring technical expertise in-house and take ownership of development, help to drive innovation and scale up their technical team.
In a nutshell, the platform they’ve created enables their clients to make smarter, data-driven investment decisions in sponsorships. They’re very close to breakeven already so have a long runway in place, with more investment in the pipeline for later this summer.
What will the role entail?
They’re pulling their platform in-house after the initial build phase was done by a consultancy. They appreciate that the first few months will be spent getting to grips with the platform; think maintenance, rigour around stress testing, bugs etc, before putting together what you need to help manage the platform in terms of hiring. You will have a real, tangible input here and they’ll be reliant on you to recommend what kind of person will need to be bought onboard and when as well as taking the lead on mentoring your team.
Medium to long term they’ll be looking for you to implement proper structure in the backend and architecture, zero in on how they collect and collate data and create structures to make the most of this. There’s a roadmap here for you to progress to CTO level so medium to longer term you’ll be looking at setting both strategy and product direction.
From the first day you’ll be considered as a part of the leadership team and essentially act as a translator for engineering needs. Think recommending what can be done quickly, what will take time, why it will take time etc. As such you’ll need to be comfortable liaising with stakeholders.
What experience do I need?
They need someone who has a solid background in full stack engineering. On the backend they work with PHP and Laravel, so you’ll need to know the language and framework inside out. You’ll also have a familiarity with frontend technologies (some they work with include Vue, VueX and Tailwind).
If you’ve worked for a business that presents complicated data in a simple but digestible way this will be ideal for you. If you’ve worked for a start-up or a scale-up then even more so – they’d love someone who’s got prior experience in this kind of environment. You’ll also have some previous experience of line management and have a passion for sports!
What’s in it for me?
They’re offering between £90K and £110K for the role, though there can be flex for the right person here. They’re still early stages so finalising what a benefits package looks like.
The interview process is a straightforward one, consisting of three stages. The first is a call with the Founder, which is a chance to get to know both himself and the product a little better through a demo. Should that go well there’ll be a second stage 60 minute technical interview, followed by a final stage 60 minute interview in person with a couple of members of the leadership team.
