Sodexo invites applications for a Technical Health and Safety Manager to lead HSEQ across engineering, maintenance and Hard FM at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The role focuses on statutory compliance, contractor oversight, risk controls and behavioural safety in a complex healthcare estate. You will drive improvements, audits and expert advice on ISO 45001 and CDM 2015.

Qualifications

• Significant Health and Safety management experience in Hard FM/regulated environments.
• NEBOSH National Diploma Level 6 (or equivalent) and CMIOSH Chartered status.
• Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and contractor management.

We are looking for an exceptional Technical Health and Safety Manager to provide expert leadership across engineering, maintenance, and Hard FM operations at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

What You'll Do:

• Lead and promote a positive Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) culture across engineering, maintenance, and operational teams, driving continuous improvement and embedding a Zero Harm mindset.

• Provide assurance and oversight of Hard FM statutory compliance programmes, ensuring risks are effectively identified, managed, and controlled within a complex healthcare environment.

• Review, monitor, and strengthen permit to work systems covering high risk activities including hot works, confined spaces, work at height, excavations, and electrical isolation.

• Support and advise engineering teams on the development and implementation of safe systems of work, risk assessments, and operational safety procedures.

• Manage contractor health and safety performance, including pre qualification, onboarding, compliance monitoring, and ongoing assurance of works carried out in live healthcare environments.

• Conduct audits and inspections of engineering, maintenance, and statutory compliance activities, analysing trends, incidents, near misses, and performance data to drive improvements.

• Provide expert technical advice on health, safety, environmental and legislative compliance matters, ensuring alignment with ISO 45001, CDM 2015, and all relevant statutory requirements and codes of practice.

What You Bring:

• Significant Health and Safety management experience gained within Hard FM, engineering, estates, utilities, healthcare engineering, construction, or similarly regulated environments.

• NEBOSH National Diploma Level 6 (or equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety, with Chartered IOSH Membership (CMIOSH).

• Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, contractor management, and permit to work systems across high risk activities.

• Proven experience managing statutory compliance risks, including asbestos, legionella, electrical safety, work at height, confined spaces, and lifting operations.

• Demonstrable experience conducting audits, investigations, risk assessments, and compliance reviews, with a strong understanding of relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

• Experience working within NHS estates, healthcare, PFI, or other highly regulated environments, with knowledge of healthcare engineering standards and compliance frameworks being highly desirable.

• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, build effective relationships, and produce high quality reports and presentations.
