Job summary

PLS Solicitors is seeking a Financial Accountant to join the Finance team in a hybrid role based in Altrincham. You will own technical accounting and reporting duties, bridging day-to-day management accounting with strategic financial oversight.

The role reports to the Finance Director and includes statutory reporting, external audit coordination, group consolidation, and VAT/compliance tasks within a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts under FRS 102 and managing external audit.
• Strong technical accounting judgement with ability to document and defend positions.
• Comfortable with limited process documentation and building it where needed.
• Experience with intercompany accounting and group consolidation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual statutory accounts under FRS 102 and manage external auditors.
• Maintain audit working papers throughout the year.
• Form, document and justify technical accounting judgements (revenue recognition, WIP, leases).
• Prepare corporation tax computations and liaise with external tax advisers.
• Own VAT compliance including partial exemption calculations and annual adjustments.
• Support SRA Accounts Rules compliance and client account reporting.
• Maintain control framework over client money in collaboration with cashiering.
• Review monthly balance sheet and asset registers; complete reconciliations.
• Contribute to closing process documentation and improvements as the function grows.
• Assist with intercompany accounting and group consolidation.
