Job summary

Cumberland Council is seeking a Technical Finance Officer in Carlisle. The role is permanent with hybrid working arrangements.

You will lead the team responsible for key financial controls, including bank reconciliations and main accounting system reconciliations, and contribute to VAT returns and statutory accounts. You will collaborate with senior managers and external partners to influence decisions, drive improvements, and ensure compliance with complex financial regulations.

About this opportunity

Cumberland Council is looking for an experienced finance professional with a strong understanding of financial systems and control functions to play a key part in ensuring the Council's financial operations remain accurate, compliant and effective.

You will oversee the team managing key financial controls including the Council’s bank account reconciliations and main accounting system reconciliations, support the VAT return, input to the production of statutory accounts. Working closely with senior managers and external partners, you will influence decision-making, drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with complex financial regulations.
