Job description

We’re working with an ambitious, independent fire engineering consultancy with an expanding presence across the UK and Ireland. As the business continues to grow, we’re looking for an exceptional Technical Director to take ownership of its technical direction, develop its people and help shape the services and capabilities that will define its next chapter.

You could be based from the company’s Northern Ireland headquarters or its London office, with genuine flexibility around hybrid working.

If you’re a Chartered Fire Engineer who combines deep technical expertise with leadership, commercial awareness and a desire to build something, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

The Opportunity

As Technical Director, you’ll become the senior technical authority within the business.

You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team to set technical strategy, maintain exceptional standards and ensure the consultancy continues to deliver innovative, robust and commercially effective fire engineering solutions.

You’ll have the autonomy to shape how the business works technically — from developing methodologies and QA processes to building new capabilities, mentoring future technical leaders and identifying opportunities to expand into new sectors and markets.

Your work will span some of the most challenging areas of modern fire engineering, including:

  • High-rise and complex buildings
  • Performance-based fire engineering
  • Fire strategies and risk assessments
  • FRAEW and PAS 9980
  • CFD and evacuation modelling
  • Technical assurance and peer review
  • Regulatory and compliance advice
What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide senior technical oversight and approval of fire strategies, risk assessments, FRAEWs and façade remediation reports.
  • Own technical governance, quality assurance and compliance across the business.
  • Establish and continuously improve technical standards, templates, review processes and workflows.
  • Lead technical audits and peer review.
  • Manage technical risk and ensure appropriate mitigation across key projects.
  • Stay ahead of evolving legislation, standards and industry best practice.
What We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is already operating at a senior technical leadership level and is ready to have genuine influence.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Chartered Fire Engineer status with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) – essential.
  • An MSc or equivalent experience in Fire Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years’ experience in fire engineering, ideally within consultancy.
  • Significant experience with complex and/or high-rise buildings.
  • Strong experience in façade remediation and external wall assessments.
  • Excellent knowledge of BS 7974, PAS 9980 and UK Building Regulations.
  • Experience with fire safety audits, technical assurance and peer review.
  • Familiarity with CFD and evacuation modelling tools such as PyroSim and Pathfinder.
  • A proven track record of technical leadership and team development.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with senior clients, regulators and technical stakeholders.
  • A genuine passion for mentoring and developing people.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to contribute to tenders, proposals and strategic client discussions.
Ready to Make Your Mark?

If you're a Chartered Fire Engineer who wants to move beyond simply delivering projects and shape the technical future of a growing consultancy, we'd love to hear from you.
